Abigail Esposito

Social Studies Teacher, Conard High School


Abby Esposito is a social studies teacher in her tenth year of teaching at Conard High School in West Hartford, Connecticut. She currently teaches United States History, Genocide Studies,  and Human Rights to tenth, eleventh, and twelfth grade students. Abby has worked closely with educators and stakeholders throughout the state to provide meaningful human rights education opportunities to Connecticut students, and to develop tools and resources available to social studies teachers. She has presented at several state and national conferences about issues pertaining to Human Rights education, and its impact on school communities and student engagement and activism. Additionally, she has previously served as an education fellow for the Religion and Public Life program (formerly the Religious Literacy Project) through Harvard’s Divinity School. Abby is a strong believer in the importance of creating opportunities for civil discourse among students about topics that matter, and her work in social studies education continues to be centered around the way we think about and embed these opportunities into the classroom and beyond. Abby was the recipient of the 2022 Gilder Lehrman History Teacher of the Year Award for the state of Connecticut.
